In 2026 I will be running a brand new block of the month called the Secret Stitched Garden. Inspired by the classic children’s book, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson-Burnett, this year’s block of the month will run in two parts. Part one is from January - June and we will be making a wildflower garden, embroidered EPP hexagon wallhanging.
Part 2 will be an appliqué wallhanging (more details about that later in the year).
The Secret Stitched Garden
What does it involve?
The Wildflower Garden EPP wall hanging will feature 19 different wildflower designs on jewel EPP shapes. These designs are embroidered in a repeated pattern, creating a unique design. Each jewel flower is then surrounded by hexagons and eventually joined together to create a hexagonal wall hanging measuring approximately 38” x 33”.
How does it work?
On the first Monday of each month from January to June, the patterns for each flower will be released and they will come with detailed video lessons so you can see exactly how to embroider them from start to finish.
Yes. There are two options for kits. Option 1 is a full kit which includes the pattern in digital form, the hexiform, fabric panels, interfacing, embroidery threads and Liberty fabric. Option 2 is just the fabric panels and interfacing. Do remember though that you can still make the design without either of the kits because the design can easily be traced onto fabric and stitched with threads and fabric that you already have. The kit options are available by subscription only.
Will there be kits available?
The pattern is designed to make the wall hanging and the kits will provide everything you need except backing and binding. If you want to make it larger you absolutely can but you will need to work it out and source extra materials yourself.
Does it have to make a wall hanging or is there the option to make it bigger?
Whilst this is not a beginner pattern, the detailed video lessons will show you exactly how to embroider each flower, step by step. This will be very helpful if you are new to embroidery. You can also substitute the more complicated stitches for outline stitches such as backstitch and this would make it much easier if you are just starting out.
If you’d like to take a short embroidery course, I have my beginners course available here.
You will be surprised just how quickly you will see your embroidery skills improve once you get started with the designs and at the end of the six months, you will have an heirloom piece to be proud of.
If you’d like to join in, you can get the pattern by signing up here. Remember that the designs will be released on the first Monday of each month. Thank you.
