Cosy Comfort Projects
Today I am going to chat to you about comfort projects.
Comfort Projects
You might be wondering what a comfort project is? To me, a comfort project is something that makes me feel good, distracts me from the stresses of everyday life and is something I turn to when I need to relax and unwind. Sometimes it can feel we are stitching our worries away when creating something, replacing the negative energy with positive feelings. Seeing a project grow and feeling a sense of accomplishment along the way. Focusing on fabrics, colours, stitches and leaving the distractions of life behind, if only for a few minutes a day.
For me there are two types of comfort projects, mindless ones and mindful ones. Examples of mindless ones are things like my happy memories quilt or my Patchwork of the crosses quilt where I don't have to think and I can just free my mind whilst working on it.
Other times I like to follow instructions which I find more mindful. I have to concentrate on what I am doing and therefore my whole focus is on the task rather than anything else. It's surprising how good this is for distracting yourself from worries and stress, especially when you are so engrossed in a project you realise a few hours have passed and you haven't thought about any worries or stress at all. I recently started a simple quilt using vintage linens and sewing it entirely on my antique sewing machine. This task was really engrossing and took my mind off everything else I had going on. You can watch the process in this video.
If you are perhaps looking for a new project to take your mind off things, I would like to suggest my Cosy Cottage Sewing Case. Using a mixture of hand and machine sewing, this project is much easier to put together than you might think. The instructions are available as a PDF download or there is even a video workshop if you need extra help. Once complete, you have a beautiful sewing case that you can use to store items for your next project.
No matter what project you choose, I hope some sewing brings you some comfort this week.
Thank you so much for your support,
Happy memories quilt
